ROCKY
A sad day today as we had to let go of a dearly loved part of our family. Rocky has been a constant part of my life when so many other things changed. He was sweet, loving, and particular about the people he accepted. After commenting last week about how full of life and youthful his attitude and level of energy was, there was nothing that would have led on to how sick his little body had become. He got sick on Easter Sunday when we took him for a walk in the park. His platelet count
(neccessary to stop a bleed) and red blood count were really low, while his white blood count was really high. Sunday night he was in the animal emergency hospital undergoing a blood transfusion. His internal bleeding could not be controlled for very long, even with the new blood. He had developed cancer in most of his vital organs. This Monday morning we transferred him to his regular vet to continue his treatment of fluids and have a abdominal ultrasound. He wasn't stable enough to withstand any surgery and the cancer had reached too many organs for any good prognosis. I held him in my arms before he was put to sleep and kissed him on his head while telling him what a good dog he has been. He left this world with us by his side. He was so loved and appreciated. I'll miss him following me around the house and cuddling to me when I don't feel good. I couldn't have ever asked for a better dog. What a blessing he has been!
